Jazz Week Berlin enters its sixth round!
The sixth edition of Jazzwoche Berlin will take place this year from June 1 to 7, 2024.

Under the patronage of Berlin's Senator for Culture and Social Cohesion Joe Chialo, IG Jazz Berlin will shine a spotlight on the jazz and improvisation scene under the theme visibility_visibility, highlight the protagonists and find out together in the cultural-political and social discourse which visibilities the scene and its protagonists need and which are possible.

The diversity of this scene and the fun that music brings in all its forms should also become visible. And of course, the music will once again take center stage and numerous concerts will be presented by the participating clubs and venues.

Opening of Jazzwoche Berlin #6

Jazzwoche Berlin will kick off with an opening on the evening of May 31, 2024 at 7 p.m. in the Kuppelhalle at silent green Kulturquartier. In addition to a variety of musical acts, discursive elements and a greeting from our patron Senator for Culture Joe Chialo, there will also be a reception at MARS | Küche & Bar with an opportunity for exchange between the actors* of the scene, politics and administration and the audience.

Admission is free.

DISCOURSE

This year, everything revolves around the topic of visibility.

How can a musical scene make itself, its topics and its concerns more visible? What spaces and concepts are needed for this? And who is able to gain visibility and who finds it difficult? What forms of visibility do we need and want?

We want to get to the bottom of these and many other topics over two days.

Our discourse program will take place on 01 and 02 June 2024.
On Saturday from 11.00 am to 6.30 pm and on Sunday from 12.30 pm to 6.30 pm we will come together in the studios in the silent green Kulturquartier to discuss, network and create new ideas and impulses.

MUSIC

Internationally, Berlin is still considered one of the most interesting cities for jazz and improvised music musicians. Here, genre boundaries lose their meaning, the genre continues to develop and there is an impressive range of musical styles, because from mainstream to avant-garde, the capital offers a diversity rarely found in this form. Jazz and improvised music can be heard 365 days a year in a wide variety of venues in all neighborhoods.

During Jazz Week Berlin, we highlight this for a week and show how much fun it is to explore this diverse scene. The clubs and organizers in Berlin curate the week themselves. Like a large, independent collective of curators in the jazz city of Berlin, they will be presenting their unique program in a wide variety of venues and in a wide variety of facets during this week.

In several episodes, our hosts Caro Olbertz and James Banner will shed light on our topic visibility_visibility from different perspectives and talk to exciting players in the scene.

The initiator and organizer of the Jazz Week is IG Jazz Berlin. IG Jazz Berlin is the cultural-political mouthpiece of the Berlin jazz scene. This includes the entire diversity of musicians, organizers and other players in the field of jazz and improvisational music.
