The body of a young girl is found behind a Marian altar in a field near Schwalbach. The body is covered in a layer of ice; temperatures at night had been around 10 C°. The 16-year-old Larissa Jansen was strangled to death. Pia Sander and Oliver von Bodenstein take up the investigation.
A DNA analysis brings Farwad M. under suspicion of murder, a rejected Afghan asylum seeker who was recently sentenced to five years in prison. However, he was able to go into hiding when he was released from custody following a prison appeal. The public is outraged. Unknown persons throw Molotov cocktails at refugee hostels, the residents are in mortal fear. Then a man is hit and killed by a car on a country road in Hintertaunus. His body is covered in bite wounds and his face is disfigured. The man can be identified from fingerprints: he had negligently killed a pregnant woman and had just been released from prison. What was he escaping from and who had beaten him up like this? Pia and Bodenstein come across more and more mysterious deaths and missing persons cases. But every lead leads to a dead end.

Nele Neuhaus, born in Münster/Westphalia, has lived in the Taunus region since childhood and has been writing for just as long. Her crime novel "Snow White Must Die", published in 2010, was her big breakthrough and today she is Germany's most successful crime writer. A passionate horsewoman, she also writes young horse books and light fiction. Her books are published in over 30 countries. Nele Neuhaus was made an honorary detective chief inspector by the police chief of West Hesse.
