Did water buffalo and sabre-toothed cats really once live in Westphalia?
The LWL Museum of Natural History of the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL)
is now bringing these animals back to life.
In the 320 square meter exhibition, visitors can experience the coming and going of animals and plants on a journey through time with over 900 exhibits. The exhibition includes original specimens of Ice Age bone finds of vanished and impressive animal species.
But what about the wolf, black stork and otter?
Are these animals extinct in Westphalia or are they back? Museum visitors can discover the animal world of Westphalia and find out about the latest research findings. Nature is constantly changing. New animal and plant species, such as the Asian bush mosquito, are conquering new areas. These so-called newcomers are currently part of Westphalia's biodiversity, but the original biodiversity is now endangered. Many native plants and animals have disappeared from Westphalia, not least due to human activity. This disappearance is still continuing. The causes and current problems of Westphalian nature are uncovered and discussed.
