Located in close proximity to Bremen's town hall and Roland, the Böttcherstraße museums are the cultural highlight of the Böttcherstraße Gesamtkunstwerk. This inner-city attraction is often referred to as Bremen's "secret main street".
The Böttcherstraße museums comprise two interconnected museums: the Ludwig Roselius Museum, an old Bremen patrician house from the 16th century with art and handicrafts from the Middle Ages to the Baroque period, and the Paula Modersohn-Becker Museum, an expressionist brick building with collections by Paula Modersohn-Becker (1876-1907) and Bernhard Hoetger (1874-1949).
The regular special exhibitions at the Böttcherstrasse Museums draw on the history of both museums and their collections, linking them with related themes and works of contemporary art.
