In the artist's words:

The author was born in Rwanda in 1953. She belonged to the Tutsi ethnic group. At the age of 11, she experienced the genocide in Rwanda in 1994, when almost 1 million people, mainly Tutsis, were brutally killed in a hundred days. She was severely injured in the head by a machete. As a result, she was unable to speak for four years. She also lost her parents and many other relatives in the genocide. The genocide affected her entire life and continues to do so today. After attending high school in Rwanda, she learned the profession of an accountant. At the age of 23, she married a German and moved with him to South Africa, later to Ethiopia. Her two sons, Carl and Hans, were born here in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, she moved to Germany with her family, first near Stuttgart, then to Freiberg near Dresden. She now lives in Karlsruhe and trained as an educator.
