Events to Bring People Together in Munich
In times of political and social uncertainty, it’s good to meet people who are also asking themselves: How should we deal with current developments? What can we accomplish together? And where can we find hope when the news offers little of it?
In the wake of the state election in Saxony-Anhalt, many people are feeling unsettled. This makes it all the more important to have places and events where we aren’t left alone with our thoughts, but can share ideas and draw strength from one another. Munich offers a number of spaces for political discussions, solidarity-based activism, creative inspiration, and encounters among equals. Social change doesn’t always begin on the big stage. Often, it starts with a conversation, an encounter, or the feeling that you’re not alone in your views. 💭
We’ll show you events in Munich that bring people together, inspire hope, encourage open discussion, and help people connect with one another. Maybe you’ll find exactly the event you’re looking for. 🫂

What happened in the 2026 state election in Saxony-Anhalt?
In the state election on September 6, 2026, the AfD emerged as the leading party with 43.8 percent of the vote. The CDU received 17.2 percent. It was followed by the SPD (9.3 percent), the Greens (8.9 percent), the Left Party (8.6 percent), and the BSW (5.3 percent). With 2.6 percent of the vote, the FDP failed to win any seats in the state parliament. Voter turnout, at 77.8 percent, was the highest ever recorded in a state election in Saxony-Anhalt.
What is the composition of the new state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt?
The new state parliament has 83 seats. Of these, 39 go to the AfD, 15 to the CDU, and 8 each to the SPD, the Greens, and the Left Party. The BSW receives 5 seats. An absolute majority would require 42 seats—so the AfD narrowly missed achieving that majority.
What do the election results mean for the formation of a government in Saxony-Anhalt?
It remains to be seen who will form a government following the election. Although the AfD is the largest party, it cannot govern alone. To elect a minister-president and form a stable government, talks on possible majorities will be necessary. As of the time of publication on September 7, 2026, it was not yet clear which coalition would ultimately emerge.
