1. Frankfurter (Sportartikel-)Kleidertauschparty
In the organizer's words:
Sports Gear & Clothing Swap, Music by Nikesch, drinks, and discussions on sustainability and sports. Free admission —drop-offs begin September 1 at the Hauptwache.
What to do with soccer cleats that no longer fit, last season’s jersey, or that yoga mat just sitting in the closet? At Frankfurt’s 1st (Sports) Clothing Swap Party, well-preserved clothing and sports gear get a second life.
Everyone is welcome to participate; no registration is required. And if you’d rather not come to the Sportquartier on September 12 with bags full of clothes and sports gear, you can sort through your items beforehand: From September 1 through 11, you can drop off your items at the “Island for Climate and Sustainability” at the Hauptwache.
We’re looking for more than just classic clothing items. From jerseys to sports jackets, soccer cleats, dance shoes, or hiking boots, to balls, racquets, dumbbells, resistance bands, yoga and Pilates mats, gym bags, skateboards, or skis—just about anything goes. The only important thing is that the items be clean, complete, and in good condition.
Swap Instead of Buying New
The principle is simple: For every item dropped off, you’ll receive a FAIRkickt chip. This chip can be exchanged at the party for another piece of clothing or a sports item. If you don’t bring anything to swap, you can still participate and take something home in exchange for a monetary donation.
In this way, the event addresses several goals at once: well-maintained items stay in circulation longer, resources are conserved—and sports equipment, which often costs a lot of money when new, becomes accessible to others again.
At 5 p.m.: What can the city, the sports community, and clubs do to combat resource waste?
At 5 p.m., the focus shifts beyond one’s own closet. A discussion on resources, clothing, and sports will explore the responsibilities of companies, municipalities, clubs, and consumers—and what's already happening in Frankfurt.
Among other things, the discussion will address how sportswear and fan merchandise can be used longer and materials can be reused. Sports clubs, too, can help ensure that sports gear in less-than-perfect condition doesn’t go unused by organizing swap meets, passing on equipment, or making conscious purchasing decisions.
Every item exchanged helps in two ways
Swapping not only conserves resources but also supports social projects: For every item donated, EFC Business Eagles Frankfurt 1899 e.V. donates two euros.
The donations benefit Adler mit Herz e.V. and the BK West United Foundation Germany e.V. Among other things, Adler mit Herz supports the construction of a school in Zambia, while BK West United implements sports and educational projects in The Gambia.
Both organizations will be on-site at the clothing swap party. Visitors can meet the people behind the projects and learn what the donations make possible.
Swap, meet people, listen to music
That’s why the party aspect is an integral part of the clothing swap:Nikesch will provide the music, while at the Sportquartier you can browse, try on clothes, swap items, and strike up conversations with one another.
