A Tarumba - Teatro de Marionetas: Dramas Curtos em Miniatura / Minature Short Dramas

In the organizer's words:

Funny and Surreal Stories by Edward Gordon Craig
In English

"Dramas Curtos em Miniatura" is part of a collection of comical short plays for marionettes that Edward Gordon Craig wrote under the title "Drama for Fools." The great theater reformer of the 20th century, known above all for his theory of the “Über-Marionette,” wrote these texts during World War I. He had planned a cycle of 365 plays for puppets. In fact, he completed only about fifty texts, which he, however, continually revised over the course of nearly forty years. He stipulated that future directors and puppeteers should complete his sketches.

These tiny plays are characterized by a wonderfully absurd sense of humor and are a treasure trove for directors with a penchant for comical, surreal stories. Luís Vieira and Rute Ribeiro have compiled some of these micro-plays and set them in a tropical and surreal environment, where Craig’s ideas intersect with those of other authors such as Tristan Tzara, René Magritte, Jacques Prévert, and Mário-Henrique Leiria. They are all united by the eternal question of the meaning of the world and the meaning of life. “There are only three ways to live in this world: either drunk, in love, or as a poet,” said the Portuguese surrealist Mário Cesariny. A Tarumba also works in this spirit.
