Achter 83: Wooli Duo

WOOLIis an avant-garde folk duo founded by Taiwanese pipa player Fan-Qi Wu and Norwegian drummer Michael Lee Sørenmo. Since their debut in Oslo in April 2024, the duo has been wowing audiences at European festivals such as the Vestafor Festival, Aarhus Jazz Festival, Babel Sound Festival, and (s)Nodi Festival.

Their debut album , “Wooli,” was released on March 13, 2026, and blends influences from East Asian tradition with the experimental freedom of free jazz. The project sees itself as a living homage to cultural heritage—not as a rigid form, but as a constantly evolving force. Their music emerges through improvisation, spontaneous dialogue, and a shared fascination with sound: rooted in tradition, yet radically new.
