In the organizer's words:
From September 11 to 13, [Das Dazwischen verorten] invites visitors to an intervention along the left bank of the Weser, which will undergo a fundamental redesign in the coming years due to new flood control requirements. Through installations, photographs, sound works, walks, and performances—among other things—seven artists explore the stretch between the Wilhelm-Kaisen Bridge and the Stephanibrücke as a place of transition.
For some, it is the daily commute to work or a place to relax by Lake Werder; for breweries and factories, it has been a site of production, delivery, and shipping of goods for centuries; for the plane trees and birds, it is a contested habitat—the urban space along the left bank of the Weser is shaped by many different presences. Due to rising water levels and new flood protection requirements, the section of the dike known as the “Stadtstrecke” between the Piepe and Stephanibrücke bridges will undergo fundamental changes in the coming years.
Before the renovations begin in 2028, [Das Dazwischen verorten] invites you to an artistic site visit between the Stephanibrücke and the Wilhelm-Kaisen-Brücke from September 11 to 13. Seven artists from Bremen and beyond will comment on and mark the site with temporary sculptures, paintings, photographs, and sound works. They will focus on what is already (and still) there, explore states of transition, or imagine future scenarios. In addition to works on view throughout the weekend, there will be a program featuring walks, performances, and interactive activities.
