The work of French-Peruvian experimental film legend Rose Lowder has always been dedicated to nature and ecological issues. Her ongoing Bouquets series already reflects this in its title. It is a compilation of precisely one-minute, silently filmed "flowers", shot in single frame. As in all her films, Lowder uses a 16 mm Bolex camera to break up nature into fragments and recombine them according to her own sense of rhythm and personal logic. In this way, she creates structural miniatures in which fauna, flora and landscape are made tangible through formal decisions.
QUIPROQUO travels through the hybrid landscape of southern France, where the beauty of nature constantly rubs up against the markers of industrial technology. BOUQUETS 21-30 is a collection of fleeting portraits of agricultural-ecological sites full of animals, vegetation and every imaginable flower. LA SOURCE DE LA LOIRE traces the upper reaches of the Loire as a babbling mountain stream, separating sound from image to heighten awareness of both. And BOUQUETS 31-40 explores new ecological sites, this time including rabbits, turtles, butterflies and cats.
