Annemirl Bauer: Bustour
In the organizer's words:
The bus tour begins in Potsdam with a guided tour of the Annemirl Bauer retrospective. There is a rupture in the world. Curator Marie Gerbaulet and journalist and author Carolin Würfel will guide visitors through the exhibition. With approximately 150 paintings, drawings, collages, and objects, the exhibition offers a comprehensive insight into more than three decades of her artistic work. The works reveal an artist who directly linked personal experiences with social conflicts, while continually seeking forms of resistance and self-determination.
Afterward, the bus tour heads to Fläming in Brandenburg to the Annemirl Bauer House—a place where the artist lived and worked for many years. Numerous works were created here, including paintings and large-format murals, in which the immediate surroundings and nature have also left their mark. Amrei Bauer, the artist’s daughter, executor of her estate, and founder and director of the Annemirl Bauer House, will provide insights on site into her mother’s life and work and into the history of this special place. Today, the house serves as a central hub for the preservation, research, and presentation of Annemirl Bauer’s work.
The bus tour concludes with a guided tour of the exhibition at the Galerie im Turm in Berlin. Curators Susanne Weiß and Sandra Teitge, together with exhibition organizer, author, and theorist Elisa R. Linn, will lead visitors through the exhibition *Dreaming: Annemirl Bauer and Bärbel Bohley,” the final installment of the five-part Berlin exhibition series *Publik Machen* organized by the ifa—Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations. The exhibition explores the interplay between two extraordinary artists and political activists who both fought for a better socialism. In the exhibition, the works of Annemirl Bauer and Bärbel Bohley enter into a dialogue with works by Christian Borchert, Jürgen Graetz, Barbara Klemm, and Elske Rosenfeld. The exhibition centers on the role of art in times of political upheaval.
Between stops, the bus ride becomes a space for conversation and reflection. The exhibition curators provide insights, address central themes, and invite participants to discuss their impressions of each stop together.
Annemirl Bauer’s work continues to raise questions about political stance and individual self-empowerment. During her lifetime, Annemirl Bauer was consistently denied a comprehensive institutional presentation of her work. It is to the credit of her daughter, Amrei Bauer, that a large part of her body of work has been preserved and is still in existence today.
The bus tour invites participants to explore the artist’s work from different perspectives and to exchange ideas about the significance of her oeuvre: How can Annemirl Bauer’s work be viewed today? How do art and political resistance intersect? What connections exist between her artistic practice and the place where the artist lived and worked for many years?
