In the organizer's words:
The war between the brothers Polyneikes and Eteocles leads to a deep division in Thebes. King Creon refuses to bury the fallen Polyneikes, prompting Antigone to defy the law in order to pay her brother his last respects. Conflict and violence not only shake the battlefield, but also the moral foundations of a patriarchal society. Antigone's act of resistance, which is to be punished with death, shakes the authoritarian system.
With his first production at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Georgian director Mikheil Charkviani confronts a democratic society with the question: How ready are you to defend your moral values?
