Artist Talk: Aline Baiana
In the organizer's words:
Artist Talk: Aline Baiana
In this Artist Talk, Aline Baiana discusses her collaborative and research-based practice as well as the creation of*Ouro negro é a gente* (Black Gold Is the People, 2025). The film shown as part of the exhibition questions the promises of modernization and traces the social, ecological, and cultural consequences of resource extraction. Drawing on a convergence of personal accounts, collective memory, and ecological historiography, Baiana explores how notions of progress determine whose lives, landscapes, and knowledge are valued. The discussion explores filmmaking as a practice of listening and preservation and poses the question: How can art preserve memories threatened with disappearance while simultaneously developing forms of care for damaged ecosystems and the communities connected to them?
