In July and August, the artists participating in the fifth edition of “Artist Meets Archive” by the International Photo Scene Colognewill be in Cologne for their residencies.
During this time, the duo Juana Awad and Luisa Ungar will engage in artistic research with the archives and collections of the German Dance Archive in Cologne to develop new artistic perspectives. The resulting projects will be presented at the next Photoszene Festival in May 2027. As early as August, there will be an opportunity to meet the artists during a public discussion:
Juana Awad is a curator, artist, and researcher focusing on decolonial curatorial practices. Luisa Ungar is a multidisciplinary artist, researcher, and educator. Using her methodology “Rehearsed Spontaneity,” she explores the shifting of specific narratives through performative means. Together, the two conduct research in archives, searching for traces, gaps, and omissions, and examining how history and stories are constructed.
Artist Meets Archive #5 is generously supported by the City of Cologne, the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Kunststiftung NRW, the Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Rheinland, Sparkasse KölnBonn, and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
