Artist Talk: Vilanismo in Conversation with Akinbode Akinbiyi

The Vilanismo collective and artist Akinbode Akinbiyi continue a conversation that began during the 36th São Paulo Biennial. They come together once again to explore photography through the lens of “Black Light.” The discussion bridges questions of the image, memory, territory, and lived experience, and explores photography as a space for encounter, resistance, and collective self-affirmation. The conversation takes place in the Sylvia Wynter Foyer, surrounded by Akinbiyi’s photo installation, which was originally commissioned for the 36th São Paulo Biennial in 2025. The conversation will be moderated by curator and author Billy Fowo of SAVVY Contemporary. From September 11 to November 22, 2026, SAVVY Contemporary will host anexhibitionfeaturing works by Vilanismo.
