In cooperation with brynja. and Café Radieschen we collectively remember. Anyone can come with a memory of a deceased person, of any kind, and share it as they wish. You decide what and how you want to tell it.

Duration approx. 2 hours.

Please bring a blanket or mat to sit on.

Why and why Buntentor cemetery?

Hi, I'm Vanessa and I'm writing my master's thesis about the Buntentor cemetery, a very special place in Neustadt. Did you know that cemeteries are currently undergoing change? Areas are becoming vacant and gaps are appearing between the graves, as you've probably already noticed. But how do we deal with these spaces and how can cemeteries develop in the future? What role will they play in our urban districts?

Cemeteries are multifaceted places. First and foremost, they are places of remembrance and commemoration, but they are also important natural spaces, places of learning, recreation, community and encounters. At a time when urban space is under increasing pressure, cemeteries are gaining in importance as green oases. The cemetery is a place for the deceased and the living at the same time.

The campaign period at the cemetery invites you to discover the Buntentor cemetery in a different way and to become more aware of our cemeteries again. It is not for nothing that they are considered intangible world cultural heritage. If the cemetery of the future can be used in a variety of ways, this will contribute to the preservation of these unique cultural monuments.
