How do we react when familiar certainties begin to waver? The exhibition’s title refers to fundamental human patterns of response when dealing with threats and uncertainty. At the same time, it serves as a metaphor for a present in which our sense of orientation appears increasingly fragile. Matthias Ströckel’s conceptual works examine cultural systems of order and the question of how orientation and meaning arise in the first place. The starting points for his artistic practice include maps, language, scientific models, measuring instruments, and everyday objects—systems that people use to describe and organize their world. Through minimal interventions, the artist alters and shifts these familiar structures, opening them up to new interpretations.

Drawings, objects, installations, and video come together in an exhibition that describes not so much the loss of order as the conditions under which orientation must be continually reestablished. FIGHT.FLIGHT.FREEZE invites viewers to question familiar meanings and to understand the moment of uncertainty not merely as a loss, but as an opportunity for new perspectives.
