The "Berliner Dom Konzerte" opens its doors to a wide audience interested in culture and offers a varied program of classical and modern concerts, dance projects, readings and productions at the highest level.
The "Berlin Cathedral Concerts" create a special encounter between past and present, between tradition and innovation. A place where young and old, locals and visitors alike feel welcome.
On November 29, Corinna Harfouch and Peter Lohmeyer will present a musical and literary kaleidoscope about the famous artistic marriage of Alma and Gustav Mahler as part of the "Berlin Cathedral Concerts".
The relationship between Gustav Mahler and his "Almschi", as he used to call his wife, could hardly have been more turbulent and difficult and would probably be considered toxic in today's context. Both of them, endowed with an extremely strong self-will and abundant vanity, entered into a marriage that was characterized by creativity, talent, jealousy, resentment and yet deep love.
The works that emerged from this relationship between two eccentric geniuses survive to this day and form the basis for a program that sheds light on the life and work of the Mahler couple and makes it frighteningly approachable.
Actress Corinna Harfouch and her no less talented colleague Peter Lohmeyer interpret excerpts from the correspondence and works of the two spouses, but also from texts by those who met them during their lifetime, such as Johannes Brahms, Sigmund Freud, Bruno Walter and many others.
The Mahlers' life's work will be brought to the stage by pianist Hideyo Harada and singer Roman Trekel. The result is a musical and literary potpourri that is at least as fascinating and engaging as the lives of Alma and Gustav Mahler themselves.
