A critical examination of the history of the ISKRA memorial in Leipzig-Probstheida by Diana Wesser in collaboration with the SGM
The ISKRA project examines the history of the socialist magazine ISKRA and its politics of remembrance in Leipzig and beyond. The focus is on the history of the family of carpenter Erich Niegel, whose house in Probstheida was expropriated for the construction of the ISKRA memorial, which has received little attention to date. In collaboration with the Stadtgeschichtliches Museum Leipzig, an audio project is being created that uses interviews and archive recordings to make the myths and historical ruptures of this event comprehensible and, above all, audible - online and on site.
The kick-off event will introduce the experts and artists involved in the project: on 3.12.2025, 17:00 - 18:30, in the Grüner Salon. Admission is free. Registration is requested.
Supported by the Cultural Office of the City of Leipzig
In cooperation with the Saxon State Commissioner for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship
