BILLIEis touching, humorous, and direct. A film that makes you laugh even as it hurts. And a film that shows that change is possible—right in the midst of the reality we all share.”

Two mothers and best friends find themselves trapped in a bank over 300 euros and are mistaken for bank robbers. With the police already hot on their heels, they can only extricate themselves from this predicament through their solidarity and a healthy dose of chaos.

“In BILLIE, filmmaker Sheri Hagen tells the story of two women who struggle for self-determination and dignity under the most adverse circumstances. What begins as a seemingly mundane everyday situation unfolds into a multi-layered drama about domestic violence, the power of friendship, and the longing for freedom. Behind the facade of everyday life, a reality is revealed that affects millions. BILLIE blends pain and humor, lightheartedness and despair—and shows how closely absurdity and existential necessity are intertwined.”
