Accompanying Program for the Traveling Exhibition "Let's Celebrate: 200 Crazy Years in Bonn"

In the Rhineland Carnival, the carnival speech is an important part of the carnival season. It dates back to carnival customs in the Middle Ages. The “Rügerecht” allowed revelers to criticize those in power with impunity. The carnival speech has undergone a transformation in recent decades; elements of stand-up comedy, musical interludes, and dialogues have been added.

A few weeks before the start of the carnival season, speakers prepare their programs, write jokes, and test their punchlines. Come experience the new program from the members of the Association of Bonn Carnivalists since 1952 (VBK) at the preview evening. In the discussion session that follows, the carnivalists will talk about the structure of carnival speeches, their significance in the carnival season, and their socio-political potential.

The event is part of the accompanying program for the traveling exhibition “Loss mer fiere. 200 jecke Johr en Bonn,” is sponsored by the Rhineland Regional Council, and is organized in cooperation with the Bonn Adult Education Center (VHS Bonn).
