A letter reaches the exiled journalist Can Dündar. The sender: Serkan Kurtulus, a Turkish inmate in a prison in Buenos Aires. He identifies himself as the man who was ordered to murder him.
Can Dündar made an enemy of President Erdogan with an article about secret arms supplies from Turkey to an Islamist organization. He was sentenced to 27 years in prison - and an attempt was made on his life right outside the courthouse. Dündar visits the man who was supposed to assassinate him in prison. Through him and during further research, he discovers a network of secret deals between democratic and autocratic governments and their links to organized crime and terrorist organizations.
As editor-in-chief of Cumhuriyet, Can Dündar reported on arms shipments from the Turkish secret service to Syria. He lives and works in exile in Berlin, writes for Die Zeit and is the founder and editor-in-chief of the opposition platform #Özgürüz (We are free).
Martina Kothe works as a freelance illustrator and as an author and presenter for ARD radio, primarily for NDR Kultur.
