Since 2024, this young band from Dortmund has been blending the atmospheric textures of blackgaze and post-black metal with the sluggish, otherworldly qualities of sludge and doom metal. CATTUS evokes a cathartic expressiveness from dark soundscapes that carries us, as traveling listeners, through diverse states of consciousness. While the ultra-competent bierschinken describes the music as “insanely atmospheric and intense,” musikreviews.de feels that the occasional lineup featuring two electric guitars and drums is “at least rudimentarily reminiscent of Long Distance Calling and God is an Astronaut.”
