When Many Voices Become One

What happens when hundreds of voices come together, breathe in unison, and transform from many individual singers into a single ensemble? Choral music that moves the soul.

On September 12 and 13, 2026, Dortmund will become the hub of North Rhine-Westphalia’s diverse choral scene: At the 12th NRW State Choral Competition, children’s, youth, and adult choirs, as well as vocal ensembles and choirs representing a wide variety of styles, will come together. They’ll showcase their talents, compete at a high musical level, and, above all, celebrate one thing: their passion for singing together.

Because this is about more than just points and rankings. The competition serves as a stage, a meeting place, and a source of musical inspiration all at once. It showcases the diversity and vitality of choral culture in North Rhine-Westphalia, brings people and musical ideas together, and invites participants to listen beyond their own sound.

For the best choirs, the journey continues: The NRW State Choir Competition serves as the qualifying round for the 2027 German Choir Competition in Leipzig.
