Lecture & discussion with Suleiman Khatib & Carly Rosenthal from Palestine/Israel
In mid-October, two members of Combatants for Peace, a Palestinian-Israeli peace movement, will be guests in Cologne. They will report on the current situation in the West Bank, the challenges for civil society peace and human rights organizations and how to deal with the situation in Gaza.
Combatants for Peace is a unique grassroots movement of Israelis and Palestinians working together to end the occupation and build a just, peaceful future based on equality, freedom and collective liberation. The movement was founded in 2006 by former Israeli soldiers and Palestinian fighters who laid down their weapons and decided to unite and work non-violently for a better future for both nations. Through civil resistance, education and creative activism, Combatants for Peace works to transform systems of oppression and create a reality rooted in dignity and security for all people in Palestine and Israel.
Sulaiman Khatib is a co-founder of Combatants for Peace and the organization's Head of International Relations. He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the organization in 2017 and 2018. As a local community organizer, he has also made a name for himself internationally through his commitment to peace, social justice and equality. Carly Rosenthal is responsible for media relations at Combatants for Peace. She grew up in a Jewish community in Melbourne, Australia, and moved to Palestine/Israel in 2018. She has been involved in peace activism and conflict transformation with Palestinians and Israelis for ten years - including as a tour guide, community builder and content creator.
