DER BAU - Kunstausstellung und Volksabstimmung
In the organizer's words:
Momoko Baumgart and Annika Horn are presenting a multimedia exhibition at the Hawerkamp 31 e.V. gallery that explores rabbits in Münster and coexistence with this non-native species in urban spaces—as well as the ways in which we talk about “the other.” This topic is explored through painting, sculpture, and installation art.
The Association for/Against the “Rabbitization” of the Münsterland (n.e.V.) was commissioned to address the “rabbit question” through a suitable democratic survey of the population. According to the Lower Hunting Authority in Münster, the rabbits’ construction activities in Münster are endangering not only the legs of valuable sport horses and rugby players but also the plant life in the Botanical Garden. The residents of Münster surveyed on the street have so far been divided on this issue. Regarding the fundamental question of whether this constitutes a pest problem and how it should be addressed, the Association for/against the Rabbitization of the Münsterland (n.e.V.) was unable to reach a consensus. For this purpose, the association therefore maintains an archive in the exhibition hall of Hawerkamp 31 e.V., accessible during the opening hours listed here, which contains relevant documents and makes them available for review. It brings together research findings and expedition results in one place for the first time. The voting public is invited to form their own opinion of the evidence. Subsequently, a result will be determined through democratic means and in a mathematically indisputable manner. The public vote count will take place on October 17, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., coinciding with the exhibition’s closing event.
