Der Mord an Patrick Thürmer und anderen Punks in Deutschland seit 1990 | Jan Sobe
In the organizer's words:
No forgiveness! No forgetting!
On October 2, 1999, Patrick Thürmer, just 17 years old, was murdered. He was on his way home from a punk concert that had taken place in Hohenstein-Ernstthal, Saxony, when three neo-Nazis attacked him and brutally beat him, causing him to succumb to his numerous injuries in the hospital just a few hours later. Patrick is one of at least ten punks who have been murdered by neo-Nazis in Germany since 1990 because they did not fit into the neo-Nazis’ exclusionary and discriminatory worldview.
This lecture provides an overview of these ten cases of right-wing murder. Building on this, it examines the circumstances surrounding the murder of Patrick Thürmer as well as the associated consequences, including how anti-fascist groups, the police, and the public dealt with this particular crime. Finally, drawing on the commemoration of Patrick Thürmer, the presentation will explore various ways in which a dignified remembrance of the victims of right-wing violence can be organized and implemented.
