Die Abschottung der Welt. Als Juden vor verschlossenen Grenzen standen 1933 - 1945
In the organizer's words:
A Conversation with Susanne Heim and Klaus Lederer
Exclusion, persecution, the deportation of millions, and mass murder in Nazi Germany have been well researched. But what was the political response in the rest of the world in the face of this horror and the threat to countless lives? In her new book, *Die Abschottung der Welt* (The Isolation of the World), Susanne Heim traces how, between 1933 and 1945, more and more people were exposed to a growing threat, while their chances of escape grew ever smaller. Jews were particularly hard hit. No state stood up for them; anti-Semitic sentiment was widespread. Deprived of their rights and possessions, they were regarded as a burden and, on top of that, as suspects. The possibility of escape ultimately became a matter of survival when the Germans put their program of antisemitic extermination into action in 1941. Susanne Heim will present her book in conversation with Klaus Lederer, and there will be an opportunity for discussion.
The event is a collaboration between Progressive Linke e.V. and the Münzenberg Forum.Registrationis requested.
