Die Hamburger Wasserwerke im Nationalsozialismus
In the organizer's words:
On September 8, 1943, Italy signed an armistice with the Allies. Germany and Italy had previously been allies. Hundreds of thousands of Italian soldiers were taken prisoner by the Wehrmacht. Those who refused to fight for the Wehrmacht were deported to Germany as so-called “Italian military internees” and forced to work. This tour commemorates the fate of the Italian men who were forced to work for the Hamburg waterworks, including at Kaltehofe.
Registration: No advance registration is required. Please simply arrive at the “Altes Labor” Information Center, Kaltehofe-Hauptdeich 6–7, about 15 minutes before the tour begins.
The tour takes place outdoors.
