Miriam (Tomomi Themann) lives with her friend Ida (Emilia Maier) for a few months and goes to the Winterstein School with her during this time. She knows nothing about the magical community. But on her very first day at school, Mr. Morrison (Milan Peschel) gives the class two new magical animals: Max (Thilo Fridolin Matthes) receives the owl Muriel (voice: Annett Louisan) and, to Miriam's greatest astonishment, she gets the energetic leprechaun Fitzgeraldo (voice: Daniel Zillmann).

Muriel quickly realizes that Max may feel more for his best friend Leonie (Purnima Grätz) than he thinks. Miriam confides in Fitzgeraldo that she was the outsider at her old school. Then Ida finds out by chance that the Winterstein School is to be closed. Ida and her class realize that the upcoming school challenge is their last chance to save the school and the magical community.

To her horror, Miriam learns that her actual school is also taking part in the competition with her former classmate Torben (Philip Müller) of all people. Under pressure from her old class, Miriam finds herself caught between two sides. Can the Winterstein School win the school challenge? And can the class prevent the school from being closed?

The previous films attracted over 8.5 million moviegoers in total, were the most successful German films of the year in 2021, 2022 and 2024 and each won the German Film Award for the highest-grossing film. Part 3 was the first film since 2019 to be awarded the "Goldene Leinwand" for more than 3 million moviegoers and the coveted "Bogey". Now part 4 continues the popular film series with the threat of school closure, a big school challenge and two new magical animals.
