The Stasi in the Neighborhood: A Guided Tour of the Former Stasi Headquarters with a Look Inside the Archives

The former headquarters of the Ministry for State Security (MfS) shaped the Berlin-Lichtenberg district for decades. From here, the GDR secret police organized surveillance and political persecution. The 90-minute guided tour, offered in cooperation with the Berlin Commissioner for Coming to Terms with the SED Dictatorship, sheds light on the historical

site from various perspectives: as the center of power and administration for state security, as the scene of the Peaceful Revolution in 1989–90, and finally as today’s place of learning and remembrance, the “Campus for Democracy.”
