DJ SEX builds her sets through repetition, tension, and release.

Drawing on the physicality of ’90s techno and rave while moving through contemporary, groove-driven productions, her selections favor elastic rhythms, hypnotic loops, and sexually charged vocal fragments. Tracks tease, repeat, and mutate, shifting between restraint and release, seriousness and play.

For DJ SEX, dancers are not an audience but the performers of the night. Her practice deliberately plays with attraction and sexualization, interested less in liberation from the gaze than in who gets to determine what it means to be looked at.

What matters is who retains authorship over the body on display. Being seen, desired, or sexualized does not mean giving up control, nor does showing oneself necessarily mean performing for someone else. Pleasure, exhibition, and desire can exist on one’s own terms.

On the dance floor, these relationships are negotiated through sound and movement. Care is a prerequisite for letting go; strangers encounter one another, while freedoms that are harder to embrace elsewhere can feel ordinary for a night. The autonomy claimed on the dance floor can extend beyond it—and so can more than just its sound.
