Documentary film by Gerd Kroske (SPK Komplex, Striche ziehen).
East Germany after reunification, during the second major wave of redundancies. Women from the large industrial combines talk about themselves and their work in interviews. They are astonished that suddenly only men are supposed to do their work. They talk about the former utopias that no longer exist today. Recordings of their day-to-day work in long-disappeared industrial buildings and brown coal mines, preserved on old U-matic tapes from the stocks of the former Leipzig pirate radio station KANAL X.
More than 30 years later, Gerd Kroske has recovered this cinematic treasure from the archive. Like an experimental set-up, the old material is commented on and scrutinized anew in split screen by some of these women, who look back on their own history. @editionsalzgeber
