DOUG WEISS QUARTET (USA / GER / ISR / UK)

The quartet of New York bassist Doug Weiss returns to Hamburg and of course to Birdland. The band will play new pieces by the bandleader as well as selected pieces by other musicians and standards.

For over 30 years Doug has made the performances of artists such as Kevin Hays, Peter Bernstein, Mike Moreno, Lizz Wright, Brian Blade, Eddie Henderson, Clifford Jordan and Al Foster a special experience. The band is described by Doug as follows, "Béla Meinberg has harmonic and melodic taste and sensitivity. Jordan Dinsdale is a subtle and swinging drummer who has studied the tradition of rhythmic greats. Ori Jacobson brings a wonderful sound, presence and storytelling. I am very pleased to have met each of these remarkable young musicians. We will be playing interpretations of music we all love, including some of my own compositions. In the words of my mentor Al Foster, we want to bring "love, peace and jazz" to the audience."
