Ed Neumeister & bujazzo Ensemble
In the organizer's words:
Doors open: 7:30 p.m.
As a trombonist, composer, arranger, and bandleader, Ed Neumeister is held in the highest regard in musical circles. Saxophone star Joe Lovano has held Neumeister in high regard as a colleague for nearly four decades and praises him both as a conductor with “infectious flair” and as a “soloist of deeply felt, passionate expressiveness.” Another renowned saxophonist, Dave Liebman, simply described him as “one of the best trombonists in the business.”
Neumeister looks back on five decades of experience as an artist and educator on both sides of the Atlantic. He grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and was already working as a professional musician as a teenager. There, he accompanied legendary vocal stars such as Frank Sinatra and Sarah Vaughan, played in various symphony orchestras, and collaborated with both Jerry Garcia (the leader of the Grateful Dead) and jazz greats like Jerry Granelli. After moving to New York City in 1980, Neumeister worked for 15 years as a musician and arranger for the Duke Ellington Orchestra; at the same time, he played in the Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra and received a Grammy nomination in 1992 for his arrangement of “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square.”
The Bundesjazzorchester is Germany’s premier young jazz orchestra. Outstanding emerging musicians, together with renowned conductors, form an ensemble of the highest musical caliber—as is the case with Ed Neumeister!
