Edmund Kesting. Avantgardist
In the organizer's words:
Edmund Kesting (1892–1970) is one of the great discoveries in modern art. As a painter, graphic artist, photographer, teacher, and tireless experimenter, he moved throughout his life between the eras, systems, and styles of the 20th century—and it was not least for this reason that he fell out of the spotlight of art history. Today, his work strikes us as an extraordinary testament to artistic freedom and radical renewal.
The exhibition invites visitors to discover Edmund Kesting and his impressive body of work in its entirety for the very first time.
The exhibition invites visitors to discover Edmund Kesting and his impressive body of work in its entirety for the very first time: as an independent voice in European modernism, as a crossover artist between painting, photography, and object art, and as an artist whose works are characterized by a persistent search for synthesis.
