In the organizer's words:
In cooperation with the Stiftung Luftbrückendank, Tempelhof Airport invites you to THFxGESCHICHTE on May 12, 2026.
Hardly any other name is as closely associated with the fight for Berlin's freedom during the Soviet blockade in 1948/49 as Ernst Reuters. In a time of existential threat, he became the most important voice of the people for self-assertion and democracy. While the Allies organized the supply of the city from the air, Reuter convinced them of the firm determination of the Berlin population not to bend to Stalin's will.
On the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the lifting of the blockade, the lecture will look back on this decisive chapter in Berlin's history. At the same time, however, there are also important questions for the present: What has remained of Reuter's commitment? Can his person still serve as a role model today?
Guests: Dr. Michael Bienert is Chairman and Managing Director of the Ernst Reuter Archive Foundation
Moderator: Ulrich Pfeil, Chairman of the Board of the Airlift Foundation and Professor of German Studies at the Université de Lorraine, Metz.
