Diane Arbus is considered one of the most visionary and influential artists of the 20th century, who radically challenged aesthetic conventions with her expressive black and white photographs. Her comprehensive retrospective Diane Arbus: Constellations comprises 454 works - many of which are being shown for the first time as part of the survey exhibition. From October 16, 2025 to January 18, 2026, the Gropius Bau will present the most comprehensive exhibition of her work to date, offering new perspectives on the artist's iconic portraits and diverse oeuvre.
At the same time, the exhibition Ligia Lewis: I'M NOT HERE FORRRRRR. .. will open on the first floor and in the atrium of the Gropius. Ligia Lewis is one of the central protagonists of a reorientation of performance in the context of visual art. In her multi-layered practice, she combines performance, live installation and film. From fall 2025, the Gropius Bau will be showing the artist and choreographer's largest solo exhibition to date. It includes new and existing works that revolve around themes such as race, gender, violence and resistance.
An awareness team will be available during and after the event. You can contact the awareness team if you have experienced discrimination or harassment, need to deal with conflict or emotions, or need someone to talk to. The team consists of trained anti-discrimination advisors. You can recognize the awareness team by their blue badges.
During the event, photos and videos may be taken in which you could be recognized. By attending, you consent to these recordings being used to communicate the event or exhibition.
