The Sinfonietta VivazzA is once again a guest at the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Haus and this time is dedicated to one of Beethoven's most famous symphonies: the "Eroica". As the title suggests, the ensemble takes a fresh look at Beethoven's third work. In an adapted version for just nine instruments, the piece is performed in full sonic splendor and at the same time with chamber music intimacy. The program is complemented by Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture and two extraordinary rediscoveries: Jerzy Fitelberg, son of the well-known Polish conductor and composer Grzegorz Fitelberg, and Ursula Mamlok, who took composition lessons with Jerzy Fitelberg in exile in America as his last pupil. Both were persecuted by the National Socialists due to their Jewish origins and found a new home in the USA. Fitelberg died in the USA, forgotten and impoverished, while Mamlok worked for decades as a composition teacher at the Manhattan School of Music.
Jerzy Fitelberg's Octet will be performed for the first time ever, the score of which the ensemble had specially transcribed from a manuscript. Ursula Mamlok's "One Piece" can also be experienced as a German premiere.
A VivazzA evening full of musical rediscoveries, exciting perspectives and thrilling soundscapes.
