Behind EUGENE IS DEAD is Bochum-based musician Stefan Boresch. The singer-songwriter, who has a burning passion for metal, punk, and rock, has been releasing his own music since 2023 under the motto “A Celebration of Melancholy.” For his band project, he writes and arranges the songs on his own, though they don’t truly take shape until the quartet rehearses together. There are many influences—and what do genre labels really matter anyway!?

The sound is straightforward and unpretentious. Here and there, a few effects provide the necessary ambiance, but the vision is always that of a live performance using the tools of a classic (rock) band—handmade and analog. The arrangements ensure clarity and richness. The vocals intertwine, take up the space they need, and leave room for the sound of each individual track. Unnecessary complexity is avoided. The songwriting doesn’t follow any specific formula or genre: it’s a musical smorgasbord of energetic and melancholic songs to sing along to, reflect on, dance to, and feel good to. They’ve also got a cover or two up their sleeves.
