Eunju Hong, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts Munich, has been awarded the Ingvild and Stephan Goetz Art Foundation's Media Art Prize 2024 for her project proposal Somnium.
In her work, Hong explores the impact of new technologies on society. For her project proposal Somnium, she was inspired by the book of the same name by German astronomer Johannes Kepler from 1609. It tells the story of a boy who undertakes a journey to the moon with his witch mother. Somnium is considered one of the first science fiction novels. In it, Kepler not only describes his interplanetary vision, but also deals with the witchcraft accusations against his own mother. Hong is planning an experimental video installation that focuses on the relationship between the two individuals in an intimate space. Various optical instruments will be used.
The Ingvild and Stephan Goetz Art Foundation's Media Art Prize is a cooperation with the Academy of Fine Arts Munich and the Goetz Collection. It is awarded annually for an initial period of three years in order to promote young artists in the field of media art, to support the creation of new works and to strengthen their public perception.
