Eva Meyer-Keller: Certainly Uncertain

“Certainly Uncertain” is a lecture-performance that blends personal narrative with scientific research. In the electrifying realm of neuroscience, Eva Meyer-Keller explores the complex topic of perception from a deeply personal perspective. This playful and interactive lecture-performance blends fact with fiction and scientific research with personal experiences to understand how perception works. Is perception something that happens to us, or something we actively do? How does the brain recognize what we see? Is there a difference between perception and experience? What can we—as individuals and as a society—learn from our nervous system in times of crisis?

With the help of DIY experiments, contraptions made from everyday objects such as sugar cubes, cauliflower, and seemingly random gestures, Meyer-Keller constructs a choreography of thinking in relations. From the first single-celled organisms on the planet to complex neural structures and the impact of this system on the artist’s immediate experiences.

About the Artist:

Eva Meyer-Keller (1972) is a Berlin-based artist who works at the intersection of performance and visual art. Her practice is characterized by a constructive disregard for the genre boundaries between visual art, performing arts, and science. Through choreographed sequences of actions, she creates images that draw the viewer’s attention to what has actually always been there: the small things that are often overlooked.
