Expanding Space

Ballroom installation by ZOE at the Filmmuseum Düsseldorf

October 4, 8 & 9 pm (with DJ afterwards)

"It is even described by Albert Einstein's general theory of relativity that the expansion of the universe is a fundamental property of our cosmic reality. This expansion does not mean that the galaxies themselves are moving, but that the space between them is expanding. When people ask me why I insist that diversity and representation beyond buzz wording really matter, I tell them: We need to take up space. Not to push anybody out. But to expand it. To expand the mind. To come together as community. To figure out collectively what is imaginable. To experiment. To exchange. To express. To go beyond. This is the way it is supposed to be." - ZOE

On October 4, the Ballroom Community presented a 14-minute performative ballroom installation with voguing elements. The performance took place for the first time in dialog with the exhibition "SELBST" with works by Norika Nienstedt and Michael Jonas at Haus der Kunst Palermo. For the performance in Düsseldorf, the installation was adapted for the Filmmuseum.

The installation takes place at the opening of the exhibition "Ballroom Düsseldorf-Palermo" with video works by Fele La Franca. DJ Amro Assy will play afterwards. A cooperation of Filmmuseum, TMD Theatermuseum Hofgartenhaus Düsseldorf, Verein Düsseldorf-Palermo e.V. and The Art of Zoe.
