A Punch in the Face

A Feminist Sports Festival

From October 1 to 3, 2026, the women artists’ collectivezweifrauentanzenwill transform Munich into the venue forA Punch in the Face, a feminist festival that brings together athletic competition and theater.

The starting point is the canon: those predominantly male-dominated narratives from literature, theater, and the visual arts. Actresses, athletes, and the audience will challenge these narratives during a weekend loosely modeled after the Olympics, in which mythological, fictional, and real figures of patriarchy become athletic opponents.

The competitions are based on specially developed theatrical texts about physicality that engage with feminist history and contemporary discourses on power and gender. In place of traditional narratives of victory comes the question of how communication, intuition, and empathy enable new forms of winning and how we can form stronger alliances.

The program ranges from workshops and an immersive opening ceremony at the PATHOS theater to cycling sessions, a Faust competition at Boxwerk, and an immersive city tour.

The festival wraps up on October 3 with the After-Sport Party at Bahnwärter Thiel. Live coverage by the festival team will be available throughout, and can be followed via a live ticker on the website in October.

01: Opening Ceremony

Opening Ceremony / Competition #tauziehen

We’re kicking off Munich’s—and the world’s—first feminist sports games, and you can be there live to see our torchbearer literally hatch from an egg! The athletic starting point for all our battles is the canon: those predominantly male-dominated stories from literature, theater, and the visual arts. Over the course of three days, actresses, athletes, and the audience will challenge them, turning mythological, fictional, and real figures of patriarchy into athletic opponents. In the first competition, the president of our Feminist Games, Helene Weigel, faces off against a frenzied mob in a tug-of-war. Who will win? The many or the one? And will you join in? In any case, she will finally step out of the shadows and into the spotlight to kick off three days of athletic competitions.

First, we learn the rules. Then we break them. We’ll learn a choreography and explore through improvisation whether restrictions stifle our creativity—or actually spark it. Instead of classic “winner’s narratives,” we’ll explore how communication, intuition, and empathy enable new ways of winning and how we can form stronger alliances. Dancing, experimenting, rethinking, and breaking a few rules—for everyone, with or without dance experience.
