Future development of pension insurance in Germany
How long should I work?
What's at stake?
This question is a perennial issue in the political debate: how can old-age pensions be financed in future in an ageing society? The Bundesbank has been commenting on this topic for decades as part of its economic policy advice to the German government, most recently in its monthly report in June 2025.
Dr. Christian Pfarr from the Economics department is the Bundesbank's expert on social security. He has represented the Bundesbank on the Federal Government's Social Advisory Council since 2021. He will talk about the situation and outlook for German pension insurance and outline options for action.
As always, the lecture will be followed by an opportunity to ask the speaker questions and discuss the topic with him.
