Gaza Life on the Border - Garry Keane & Andrew McConnell
Over a period of four years, between 2014 and 2018, GAZA documents the lives and development of some Gaza residents who have not lost hope in their almost hopeless situation. The Gaza Strip is a 364 square kilometer coastal strip on the Mediterranean between Egypt and Israel, densely populated with around 2 million inhabitants. It is part of the Palestinian autonomous territories and has been controlled by the radical Islamist Hamas since 2007. Since the beginning of its rule, rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip on Israeli towns have increased - and Israel has hit back ever harder. Since then, Hamas and Israel have repeatedly fought bloody battles in the Gaza Strip. The ceasefire that has been painstakingly maintained since 2014 was recently broken: In spring 2018, the situation escalated and the violent clashes on the border once again resulted in countless deaths and injuries. A solution seems a long way off. The documentary GAZA takes place in this charged crisis region and, despite all the problems, is not a war film. Rather, it is a powerful film about hopes, dreams and daily life in the Gaza Strip. In poetic images, it tells the touching stories, the very normal desires and problems of the people who live their everyday lives in this place of ongoing conflict.the documentary GAZA is a tribute to the people in a region under the constant threat of war.
