Three countries, one memory?
Perspectives on the culture of remembrance of the two world wars in the border region
The border region between Aachen, Liège and Maastricht is rich in sites and memorials of the two world wars.
In the 'Europe on Tuesday' series, we invite you to discuss the following questions with our expert Alexander Barth: How have remembrance and reappraisal developed from 1945 to the present day? Were there and are there common approaches?
The journalist and author from Aachen undertakes a search for traces, which he documents with numerous photos. He attempts to take stock and follows the question "Every man for himself or together?".
Alexander Barth, born in 1977, lives and works as a journalist, author and press officer in his native city of Aachen. For many years, he has been traveling in the border triangle on topics of contemporary history, culture and society. As the author of alternative travel guides, he is always interested in off-the-beaten-track, exciting and bizarre places between Aachen, Liège and Maastricht.
Questions from the audience are welcome. Andreas Düspohl will be the moderator. He is the director of the Grashaus and the International Newspaper Museum. Together with EUROPE DIRECT Aachen, he has been organizing the 'Europe on Tuesday' series since 2018.
