GENTLE MONSTER is a sensitive portrait of a self-assured woman who threatens to lose her footing after the revelation of a shattering secret. A clever and gripping drama that offers a multifaceted, female, and feminist perspective on a controversial topic, without ever losing sight of its fascinating main characters—played by French superstar Léa Seydoux and German screen star Jella Haase—or offering simplistic answers.
Concert pianist Lucy (Léa Seydoux) moves with her husband Philip (Laurence Rupp) and
their son to the countryside, where the filmmaker is slowly recovering from burnout
. One day, the police arrive at the door to conduct a search of the house. The accusation that Special Investigator Elsa (Jella Haase) levels against Philip is serious and turns Lucy’s world upside down. Who is the man she loves, really? A story about Lucy and Elsa, about trust and deception, about love and being true to oneself.
