German Readings brings unproduced screenplays to the stage as staged readings—featuring prominent artists and live music. Initiated by Christian Klandt, Peter Kurth, and Johannes Repka.
In staged readings, actors and actresses present selected screenplays to an audience for the first time. The texts are accompanied by live music composed specifically for the evening, which adds an extra emotional layer to the stories.
German Readings is more than just a reading. Afterward, authors, filmmakers, representatives from the funding community, and the audience discuss the presented works. Why was a screenplay rejected? What works particularly well? What chances would it have today? And which stories might be lost to the German film and television landscape?
